Webwereld is in search of IT Architect of the year 2009. “IT architects are technically brilliant, they are professional and social-minded”, according to the press release. In search for the best IT all-rounders, the organisation of Webwereld encountered Justin van Heerde, IT architect at IC&S.

As an architect at IC&S (former name of Jitscale), Justin designs infrastructure for business critical internet platforms of clients. “It’s always a challenge to design an infrastructure where availability, scalability, performance and data security go together with cost efficiency” says Van Heerde. The nominee continues: “I try to have the broadest perspective possible, in all areas, to ensure the basic principle of ‘the right tool for the right job’ for each client. My background as developer, systems manager and technical consultant provided me with a solid base to develop further into technical architect.”

The diversity of his expertise comes together in Jitscale, the service where an entire infrastructure can be placed in the cloud. As a lead architect, Justin has collaborated on this service, which uses several cloud computing providers. Activities of the IT architect for Jitscale include realization of automatic scaling in all layers, high availability, and the option to effortlessly switch between clouds.

Involvement in plan, design, operation and implementation of the ICT architecture within one organization was the reason Webwereld decided to nominate Van Heerde. He competes for the title with nine other architects. The winner is announced in the first week of December.
