Keyboard knights

All Jitscale employees are keyboard knights. Practically all working hours they’re sprawled in their ergonomic chairs behind their ergonomic desks. Typing and phoning all day long. The only exercise they take is a stroll to the coffee machine and canteen. Recognizable?

Most working people have a sedentary job. Many complain about lack of exercise, stiff muscles, excess weight, tiredness, and all other sorts of related symptoms. But not everybody takes action to do something about it. Often, after work and having spent some time in a traffic jam and stopping at the supermarket, you’re in no mood to drag yourself to a gym. Watching the telly or spending some time on your computer is much more appealing. Of course, there are so many excuses: it rains, my mate is not going so me neither, I prefer to hang out than work out, I have a splitting headache, my sports clothes are still in the laundry, it’s late already, etc.

Obviously, I don’t want to put everyone in one box; there are always sporty types who use their spare time for practising all sorts of sports and who even cycle to work. But to encourage all of us to start exercising, Jitscale has made it possible to join company sports from the 1st of October.

It proves to be a good initiative to get the keyboard knights moving, no more excuses, just join in the fun with the others. A bit of peer pressure works miracles! Almost everybody has signed up. The gym where we enrolled, offers an abundance of choice including tennis, squash, fitness and aerobics, so something for everyone.

Fierce competition in squash tournaments has broken loose. Canteen discussions become more fanciful and employees are bent over from muscle aches. So playing sports is not only good for some much needed exercise, it also contributes to team building. The next step, in my opinion, should be a keyboard knights tournament.
